Terms of Use
Last updated October 13, 2026
The short version
- Serein is free to download and use on your own Macs. It is early software, provided as is.
- You decide what each agent may do, and you are responsible for what it does with the access you grant.
- Agent providers, websites and search engines have their own terms, and those apply when you use them.
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and the Serein team (“we”, “us”). They cover the Serein app for macOS and the serein.pro website. By downloading, installing or using Serein, you agree to them. If you use Serein on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you can accept these terms for it.
2. Your license
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to download, install and use Serein on Macs you own or control, for personal or internal business use. Serein’s own code is not open source, and we keep all rights not expressly granted here.
You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Serein (share a link to serein.pro instead), remove its notices, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows. Third-party components are licensed under their own terms, listed on the Licenses page, and nothing here limits the rights those licenses give you.
3. Early software
Serein is under active development. The current build is signed with a Developer ID, notarized by Apple and runs without the App Sandbox. Features may change or be removed, and builds may contain bugs that cause data loss, so keep backups of anything important.
4. Agents and other services
Serein works with agent command-line tools that you install separately, such as Claude Code and Codex. Those tools and their providers are not part of Serein. Your use of them is governed by your agreements with their providers, including any usage limits and charges. The same applies to the websites you visit, your search engine, GitHub, Apple and any other service Serein connects you to. We are not responsible for third-party services.
5. What agents do with your access
Every task can read pages. Clicking and typing, your signed-in sessions, project edits and Mac actions stay off until you grant them. Once you grant access, an agent can act with it, and the actions it takes, such as submitting forms, sending messages, buying things or editing files, are your responsibility. Agents can make mistakes. Watch their work, review their changes, and use Stop to revoke a task’s access at any time.
6. Acceptable use
Don’t use Serein to:
- break the law or infringe the rights of others;
- access accounts, data or systems without permission;
- send spam or abusive automated traffic, or get around a site’s access controls in breach of its terms;
- build or spread malware.
7. Feedback
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.
8. Names and marks
Serein, its name, mark and website belong to us, and these terms don’t give you rights to use them. Agent names and marks belong to their owners. Serein is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
9. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, Serein and serein.pro are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We don’t promise that Serein will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that agents will act correctly.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of Serein, agents or third-party services. Our total liability for any claim about Serein is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Serein in the 12 months before the claim and 50 US dollars. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
11. Ending these terms
You can stop using Serein at any time by deleting it. We may end your license if you break these terms. Sections 7 to 12 continue to apply after the license ends.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If the consumer protection laws where you live give you rights that these terms can’t take away, those rights still apply.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new date, and note significant changes with the release that introduces them. If you keep using Serein after a change, the updated terms apply.
14. Contact
A contact address for questions about these terms is coming soon and will be listed here.
